"Cautious optimism" on Trump's imminent Gaza ceasefire deserves more caution than optimism, due to absent commitment to equal justice
I told TRT tv that we see zero signs of a serious Israeli-US will to compromise for a ceasefire, as they expect vicious militarism alone to destroy Hamas, which goes against history and human nature.
Israel-US face the same dilemma in Palestine as they face in Iran. Massive military destruction will triumph and cause damage to the enemy for a short period, but in the long run among new generations this generates much hatred and a desire to resist and seek retribution. A genuine and lasting ceasefire — which we should all support, always, everywhere — is only possible and useful if it meets the bottom line of both protagonists. This is not happening in Iran or Palestine, and the US-Israel side is baffled about what to do other than to threaten and demand surrender and submission, in moves like Trump’s Tuesday that are typically dramatic, bold…and often delusional. Zionism/Israel have enjoyed unlimited superpower military and diplomatic support from the UK from the 1920s and from the US since the 1950s. But this has not brought Israel peace or acceptance in the region. It’s time for those who boast about the power of their guns to explore the greater power of their castrated commitment to justice for all.
